The anxiety we go through with each extended time off from school - Spring Break, Winter Break and the dreaded S U M M E R V A C A T I O N. I'm getting smarter, having done this for a few years. I still have to work, but that doesn't mean I have to be it. I can hire someone to come here for the day and be "it."
Thank goodness for the sunshine and two wonderful sitters who come with their bags of tricks and ideas. They have saved my week at $7 per hour. The children have played, crafted, ventured to the park, had the pool out for the one warm day. We're almost through the week. One more day to go.
Summer - we'll have them here two days a week. We have to or I'll lose my mind with both of them fighting, throwing, complaining, and just interacting with each other in general.
I'm not a fan of the camp thing and all the schedules. We've found that more stressful - getting them ready, taking them, picking them up. They prefer to be home with their stuff and friends. That's fine, but we have to have someone else be IT.
The house is festooned with water color paintings, Easter card projects, dolls, sandy footprints and more shoes than a centipede can wear - but it is peaceful, they had fun and I'm actually able to take a few minutes to breathe. And I'm grateful for two wonderful teens that can carry on a conversation with more deftness than most 20 somethings. I'd hire them before most college graduates.
