As usual with a Quentin Tarantino film, there's very little room for middle of the road. We had a date night for this one. After a great dinner at Pastini, we made it just in time for the end of the over-the-top previews before, "Inglourious Basterds." We really enjoyed the movie.
I admit to wincing at the gore several times, but the casting was terrific as was the premise. In spite of reviews saying this was a formula-type of Tarantino film, it still caught me off-guard.
spoiler...
We could really over think it by comparing the fact that the end was a movie with Nazis watching a movie about killing Jews and they were enjoying it, yet were we any better for watching a movie about Nazis watching a movie about killing Jews and enjoying the part when the Nazis were all burned and shot.
Hmmmm. Same end - dead people due to a difference of philosophy, opinions, morals. But, dead people just the same. I'm glad we saw the movie. We did enjoy it. I loved the costumes. Brad Pitt was fun, but the Nazi Colonel Hans Landa, played by Christoph Waltz, stole the movie. His was perfect, sly evil.
Yes, we could have rented it. The swastika bit wouldn't have had me curling under the seat each time.
