We don't have computer games. We both use our computers in our businesses all day long. On the weekends our children love to have a bit of "creative time" on my computer. Their favorite program - Adobe PhotoShop. It is most popular with our son. He's 3 1/2.
I set him up with two bright colors in the tools area and a blank canvas, his brush tool and he's on his way. He's able to switch colors for the brush between the two black colors and the default black and white. Once he has his basic drawing down he's ready for fun - FILTERS. He loves the filters. I just walk away.
Their dad was in the kitchen fixing the obligatory 3rd pot of the day when he heard a Ricky Ricardo laugh coming from my office. He couldn't imagine what had our son laughing do deeply. Then he heard, "Oh dad you have to see THIS! Now Dad!" My husband went to see what had him going - filters.
Every time he chose from his favorite filters he roared at the dramatic change. His favorites are stained glass and neon glow. You wouldn't think PhotoShop could insight that type of laughter, but it does every time. I try to keep the memory of his laugh with me during the work day when I'm fumbling with filters on my own projects.
