I think when the flu or a cold hits a family it usually does it in the right order, the children get it first, then the parents. It worked out better for me this time.
Last week our daughter kicked off the week with the pukey flu, followed by her brother two days later. This allowed our daughter to be compassionate towards him and help him be peaceful. It was the first time he ever had stomach flu - EVER. He was so sweet to her when she was ill, it gave her the cue with him.
We thought we were done. Thursday had us all preparing for my "women's" movie night at home - chocolate cake, wine, California rolls, Brie, etc. I can write these words now. I could not yesterday or the night of the event without wanting to "unswallow."
My family was fabulous. They helped clean up the house and went to a Girl Scout event for the evening while four of my friends came over to watch, "The Women" (1939) and enjoy cake, wine, etc. We had a great event.
At the end, I was not OK. My husband and I were on the sofa after the children passed out. He was watching some stupid HD show on the "WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS ROADS" (urp!) I just can't do driving and flying things in HD. By midnight it was all over. I had it.
The next morning the children found me in bed rubbing my feet together and whimpering. This is probably the third time I've been sick since they've been born. They both went into nurse mode: books, crackers, ginger ale, you name it. They were so understanding because they knew how it felt - exactly and knew what to do because of what we did for them just days before. I was touched.
I truly think we get sick in that order for that reason. At least it worked out for me. They were exceptionally thoughtful This illness came and left very quickly - 24 hours. By the end of the 24 hours they were falling apart. They had been good too long. They were going to implode. You should have seen their calm faces caving into to become crumpled, little apple people faces.
Today we are back to normal. They are fighting, I'm making rules and their dad is escaping to the back room. All is right with our world.
